I found this pic DEEP in my camera roll. Suggested by that automatic iPhotos feature. God knows where I was.
Spring 2025, apparently.
I was listening to Parachutes by Coldplay a lot during this time, which is really funny because I got the urge to play this album while journaling this morning.
I’m used to being behind the camera, but every so often someone with a good eye manages to capture me in my essence. Though I have taken steps to become more #serious 😐, the whimsical in me never fails to come out. I am trying to learn to live with it.
I don’t even recognize this as myself anymore. Completely different face lol. Many people currently in my life have never met this version of me. Strange times.
Better? Eh. There aren’t many times in my life that I' deem “great.” The days just are, and then they become memories that we will never go back to, and then they are gone.
I remember one time at Printed Matter on St. Mark’s, I saw this zine by a girl… I think she was Salvi; I can’t recall. She composed a zine full of pics of every rocking horse and creature in New York City. GOD, I wish I could remember her name. The little book really stuck with me. Quite nostalgic.
I have a creeping suspicion that I know who the photographer behind this pic is, but I will have to double-check and confirm.
Anyway, Mr. Photographer, if you are reading this, I have edited this picture to my liking. Long story short, for composition’s sake, I could ’t hide the ugly water bottle you captured to my left, so I just hid it.
I filled the negative space with a mustard yellow bar. It goes well with the colors in the pic. It just felt right. Allow me to explain why:
I have been very into graphic, digitally formatted elements [ref. the format highlight on my main Instagram]. This is a far cry from the gritty, abstract paint-strokes present in my previous paintings, though the color palette remains more or less the same.
.. I think I’m on to something.
